Rich-media webcasting
A workshop at the ICTP-SDU, December 2007
Please note that the present pages on the ICTP workshop were obtained from a mediawiki used during the workshop. There may be a number of links that go to missing pages, and other inconsistencies. Much of it is also very informal, and should be seen as workshop notes! Many participants commented positively on the use of collaborative tools used a the workshop.
The main tool used was Mediawiki. During the workshop, we gradually added gradually added tools to the Mediawiki, to accomodate workshop requirements.
The following extensions were installed:
- Comments extension. (The mediawiki was set up so that users would need to log in in order to be able to edit pages, so that (e.g. for surveys) we could tell which user submitted which answers. The comments extension was modified accordingly, so that the user name is recorded.)
- Blogging extension.
- Google maps so that we could show eachother where we'd come from
- Semantic extension
- (Also of interest, but not installed: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Newest_Pages_Blog)
Of course the workshop was concerned with introducing appropriate multimedia tools, and programs used are described on following pages, and included Ubuntu, Apache, Moodle, Audacity, kdenlive, wordpress (both the hosted service, as well as the locally hosted toolkit). For a longer list of software used or discussed at the workshop see
